Nicola Molony

Nicola Molony is a third generation member of the Eastern Cape bar, who began her practice in Makhanda in July 2003. Apart from a year spent in the United Kingdom from 2005 to 2006, and serving as an acting magistrate in the Albany District Magistrate’s Court from July 2009 to February 2013, Nicola has held chambers in Makhanda as a member of the Eastern Cape Society of Advocates up to the present. She has acted as a pro forma prosecutor or presiding officer in numerous disciplinary inquiries at Rhodes University and independent schools in Makhanda and has appeared in a number of hearings in the CCMA. Nicola served as honorary secretary of the Eastern Cape Society of Advocates in 2008, and as a member of the bar council of the Eastern Cape Society of Advocates in 2014 and 2015. She also served as tutor in criminal procedure to pupil advocates in 2015 and 2025, and as a pupil mentor in 2019 and 2021. Nicola has also worked as a part-time lecturer at Rhodes University, in criminal law and criminal procedure, and as an external examiner in commercial law and criminal law. She has served as an acting judge of the Eastern Cape High Court on thirteen occasions, and was a representative of the advocates’ profession on the Eastern Cape Legal Practice Council from its inauguration until 2024.
